Funding your Training
Funding is available to help pay for your school-led teacher training
If you’re a UK or EU student training on our SCITT or School Direct (fee paying) route, you’re usually eligible for a loan to cover the £6,000 tuition fee. Depending on your degree classification and the phase/subject you wish to teach, you may also be eligible for a tax-free government training bursary or scholarship which you don’t have to repay.
You can calculate an estimate of your loan repayments by visiting the student finance government website and selecting ‘Teacher’ from the list of careers. The maximum tuition fee loan you can obtain with Educate is £6,000, as this covers the whole of the fee for Qualified Teacher Status with us. Apply for your tuition fee and/or maintenance loan (with Educate Teacher Training as your provider) through the Student Loans Company.
If you are on a School Direct (salaried) route you will be employed by a school for a year and paid as an unqualified teacher whilst you train. This means that no additional funding, in the form of government loans, grants or bursaries, is available.
If you choose to take the PGCE option, the additional £2,000 isn’t eligible for a student loan.
The Assessment Only Route costs £2,675 plus VAT. There is no funding for this route, so you or your supporting school must meet the fee.
